Nestled on a steep terrain spanning 3880 sqm, LES RACINES DE FAQRA comprises eight distinctive single-family homes, each with its own driveway, garden, and terrace.
The stone... that's where it all began. LES RACINES DE FAQRA is a tribute to the timeless charm of traditional Lebanese homes, featuring uncut natural stone and simple, minimalist volumes. The inspiration for the project came from a single residence, which set the tone for the design and became the project's starting point.
The architect expertly blended modern and traditional elements to create a seamless harmony between the homes and their surroundings. By introducing expansive bay windows, the residences offer panoramic 180-degree views of the breathtaking scenery. The design takes full advantage of the natural environment, offering residents the tranquillity, serenity, and splendour of the surrounding nature.
The project's central ethos is to preserve the natural landscape, and the design integrates seamlessly into its surroundings, blending into the existing stone terraces and using planted roofs. The project is distinctly characterized by its environmental consciousness, utilizing a planted roof to promote integration and providing natural heating through the greenhouse effect of the large zenithal opening and the south-facing bay window. The double walls made of 50 cm thick natural stone provide superior thermal insulation, ensuring optimal energy efficiency and reducing the environmental impact.

Spanning over 3800 m², The Roots of Faqra consists of eight individual dwellings, situated on a steeply sloped terrain facing the north, each with its own walkway, garden, and terrace.

The stone...This is where it all began. A desire to recapture nature's influence on primal and ancient dwellings.

The Roots of Faqra, as the name suggests, is a return to the roots of our traditional Lebanese homes which are mainly constructed of unprocessed natural stone extracted from the site, devoid of crimson roof tiles and arches.

The building benefits from a simple, minimalist layout and shape. That home has been the inspiration for this project, its starting point.

Merging modernism and tradition, we had developed the house of our ancestors focusing on giving the feel of security, and insisting on the installation of curtain walls, to conserve a 180-degree panoramic view, for a feeling of being outside in full osmosis with nature.

Each unit of the project had been made to benefit from its environment: the view, calm, water, nature …

The root concept is to preserve the natural landscape, the structures of the project tend to integrate into their environment, by being embedded into the existing stone-built step-like earthworks, and by their slanted roofs covered in vegetation.

The project distinguishes itself vis-a-vis its ecological aspect. Planted roofs allow smooth integration into the landscape, as well as provide adequate thermal insulation for the summer and winter months. The house benefits from natural heating, via a greenhouse effect produced by a large skylight and a southward curtain wall. Furthermore, 50 cm thick double walls of natural stone, provide the perfect layer of thermal insulation.

DESCRIPTION ​

Construit sur 3880 m², LES RACINES DE FAQRA comporte huit habitations individuelles, situées sur un terrain très pentu, ayant chacune sa propre allée, son jardin, et sa terrasse. 

• La pierre...C'est par là que tout a commencé. Un désir de l'architecte, qui est celui de rendre à la pierre son charme naturel d'autrefois. 
• Les Racines De Faqra, comme son nom l’indique, est un retour aux racines, celles de nos maisons traditionnelles libanaises... Construites en pierre naturelle non taillée, dépourvues de tuilerie rouge et d’arcades, elles jouissent d’une volumétrie simple et minimaliste. 
• Cette maison fut l’inspiration de ce projet, son point de départ.
• Alliant subtilement modernisme et tradition, l’architecte a développé la maison de nos aïeux, en insistant sur l’intégration de baies vitrées, afin de profiter de vues panoramiques de 180 degrés. Chaque maison profitera de tout son environnement: la vue, le calme, l’eau, la nature...

• Le concept général étant de préserver les paysages naturels, le projet s'intègre parfaitement dans son environnement, en s'incrustant dans les terrassements de pierres déjà présents, et par ses toitures plantées
• Le projet se caractérise nettement par son côté écologique. Une toiture plantée favorise l’intégration de l’habitation dans son environnement, tout en garantissant une fraîcheur en été et une isolation en hiver. La maison bénéficie d’un chauffage naturel grâce à l’effet de serre produit par une grande ouverture zénithale et une baie vitrée orientée vers le sud. Enfin, les double murs en pierre naturelle de 50 cm d’épaisseur offrent une parfaite isolation thermique. ​
